Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni said on Tuesday that he would convey to President Masoud Pezeshkian the views and proposals put forward by Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani during their meeting in Doha.
Momeni said he had travelled to Qatar carrying a message from President Pezeshkian for the Qatari emir. He described his discussions with Sheikh Tamim as “positive and constructive” amid ongoing diplomatic efforts to reduce regional tensions and facilitate communication between Iran and the United States.
The Qatari Amiri Diwan said Sheikh Tamim received Momeni in Doha, where they discussed developments in the region and reviewed efforts aimed at de-escalating tensions and strengthening regional and international security and stability.
Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs also confirmed that communication with Iran remains ongoing.
Ibrahim Al Hashemi, director of the ministry’s Media and Communication Department, said Qatar’s contacts with Iran had not been interrupted and that the purpose of Momeni’s visit was to seek progress that could provide a basis for further diplomatic efforts.
Al Hashemi said dialogue between Washington and Tehran was continuing, while messages were also being exchanged between various parties through Qatar and its regional partners.
Efforts to revive negotiations between Iran and the United States have so far failed to produce a breakthrough. Despite an agreement on a ceasefire in April, the signing of a memorandum of understanding in June and indirect contacts on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in September, tensions and mutual threats have continued.
Qatar has increasingly positioned itself as a mediator in regional conflicts and between competing parties. Momeni’s visit to Doha comes as part of broader diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions and prevent the current confrontation from widening into a larger regional crisis.
